Want to know the fastest method I've ever used to build an opt-in email list? Hint: It's faster than I could have normally done it by myself.
So, what is that fast list building method? I call them list building joint ventures. Here's how we set it up... 5-6 web site owners were involved. Each of us had one or more opt-in email subscription forms for our own lists placed on our web sites. When a visitor to one of our sites subscribed to a list, a small blurb for each of the other lists along with a recommendation from the site owner and a signup form, was displayed on the "thank you" confirmation page. All the visitor had to do was click a checkbox next to the list(s) they wanted to join, and submit the form. The subscriptions were then processed in the normal fashion. There are some potential drawbacks to this method: • When people start getting emails from lists they don't remember joining, they're more likely to complain of spam. The quality tends to be better when you use this method with no more than a few trusted partners. • Some partners will generate more subscribers than other partners. If this is a concern, it may be good to determine in advance how to equalize any sizable differences in the number of subscribers each partner generates. • Some list management services may not permit the use of leads generated through co-registration.
